SERAP, 176 Nigerians Drag FG To Court Over Twitter Ban

SERAP, alongside one hundred and seventy six Nigerians have charged the Federal Government of Nigeria to ECOWAS court in the wake of the country's suspension of Twitter.

The suit came with the number ECW/CCJ/APP/23/21 and was filed by the solicitor to SERAP, Femi Falana SAN before the ECOWAS Court of Justice located in Abuja.

Recall that the Federal Government had banned the use of Twitter in Nigeria after President Buhari's tweet was deleted. It accused Twitter of double standards.

The Federal Government stated that the indefinite suspension of Twitter in the country was unconnected to the deletion of the President's tweet but due to the fact that Twitter was the platform of choice for activities that undermined Nigeria's corporate existence.

The ban led to an outcry from Nigerians who claimed that such a move had no place in a democratic country like Nigeria.

Twitter had called the ban deeply concerning.
