Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest: Respect Igbos, Senator Anyanwu tells Buhari

The Senator representing Imo East Senatorial district, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to respect the Igbos by allowing them to enjoy equal rights with tribes from other regions of the country.

He stated this in reaction to the arrest and repatriation back to Nigeria, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu after his arrest, was re-arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism related charges.

He was ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital, senator Anyanwu expressed displeasure that the federal government is not making efforts to address the numerous agitations in the country, but opted to prosecute agitators.

Calling for a fair trial for Kanu, he said the entire world is watching how the federal government would handle his case.

He cautioned political office holders making incitive statements or mocking the South East over Kanu's travails to desist and allow the law to take its cause, warning that such comments are capable of creating ethnic tension.

While calling on all regions to respect Igbos as one of the major tribes in the country, he noted that Igbo people are not crying for peace, but for equal rights and justice.
