During a quarrel on Wednesday, August 25, the accused from Girei town in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State allegedly broke his wife's lower jaw and damaged her right eye.
Ruth, the victim, was unable to speak when she appeared in court on Thursday, August 26 due to surgery she underwent inorder to stitch her broken jaw.
Zakaria was also said to often beat his wife, sometimes in front of their children, if there was a quarrel between them.
Zakaria, on the other hand, pled not guilty to allegations of causing grievous bodily harm and other offenses.
He told the court that his wife was to be blamed for the family's trouble, claiming that she held his private parts and hence he had to beat her.
The court, presided by Magistrate Abdulrazak Adamu, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody at the Yola Correctional Centre and that the case be addressed on November 22, 2021.
Although, some men are just fond of carrying out domestic violence on their wives due to their nature.
