The answer to Lai Mohammed's question on why the family members of the victims failed to testify

The ordeal of Kamsiyochukwu Ibe, a lady who was brave enough to testify in front of the Lagos EndSARS panel, is the answer to the question asked by the Nigeria Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who discredited the report submitted by the panel.

According to The Daily Post, Lai Mohammed, in a press conference in Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed the panel's report as fake news and queried it over its report claiming that family members of those it reported as dead were afraid to speak.

According to him, "even goats have owners if they do not return home not talk of human beings".

The ordeal of Miss Ibe at the hands of some unknown persons who assaulted her is a good example of why the family members of the victims decided it was best they did not testify.

According to, she reported via Twitter on Monday that machete wounds were inflicted on her by unknown individuals on Sunday evening. The report also stated she said her attackers informed her they were punishing her for being bold enough to give a testimony in front of the panel.

In more developed countries, their government would have placed someone like Miss Ibe on a witness protection program as they would have anticipated that the witnesses could be attacked.

However, that was not the case in the aftermath of the incident at the Lekki Toll Gate involving the EndSARS protesters and some security agents. Hence, the panel's argument that the victims' families were afraid to speak up is logical.

Had the government taken steps to ensure that witnesses were protected, it might have encouraged people to speak up. What happened to Miss Ibe was unfortunate, nobody will speak up if they fear they will be looking behind their shoulders whenever they appear in public.
