Prominent Nigerian Meet In Abuja.

No communique was released on Thursday after a nine-hour closed door meeting in Abuja of some eminent Nigerians, led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The meeting was called to deliberate on the state of the nation and suggest solutions to some of the lingering challenges.

But no communique came out of the deliberations.

Former agriculture minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh, who also attended said a communique on the outcome of the meeting will be issued later.

In attendance at the meeting were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Sultan of Sokoto, his Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar, and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Also sighted was Cardinal John Onaiyekan, a Catholic archbishop. .

The meeting was held at the Kano Conference Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

PDP Lists Project It Did But FG Is Claiming.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of claiming projects done by previous administrations.

Recall that President Buhari in an interview on ARISE Television listed the achievements of his government so far.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, accused Buhari of laying claims to projects done by PDP administrations, instead of addressing salient issues confronting the nation.

Ondo Doctors Begin Two-Week Strike Over Pay.

Doctors in Ondo State under the auspices of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners have embarked on a two-week warning strike, alleging that the state government is not taking their welfare seriously.

Specifically, the doctors accused the government of failing to pay their salary arrears for some months, failed to resolve the issue of exodus of doctors and other health workers among other matters, hence their service was withdrawn.

The association stated this in a letter sent to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The letter, which was signed by the state Chairman and Secretary of the NAGGMDP, Roland Arohunmolase, and Richard Obe, respectively, was made available to our correspondent on Thursday

The letter was titled, Notice of withdrawal of service.

Buhari Orders Review Of Police Salaries.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said he has given directives for the upward review of Police salaries and benefits.

The President made the known while delivering a speech on Thursday during a one-day visit to Lagos State, where he inaugurated various projects.

Bassa LG Community Appeals For Security.

Residents of Agingi community of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State have appealed to the state government to deploy security personnel to protect their lives and property.

According to the community, the call was necessitated by the recent attacks on the residents of Dogo and other areas of Jos South and Bassa LGAs which led to loss of lives.

Mr Charles Okoro, who spoke on behalf of the community at the state’s NUJ secretariat in Jos, noted that there was security problem in their areas and that government needed to take proactive measures to nip them in the bud.

Okoro said the people living in the area were mostly traders and civil servants and that their lives were under danger, adding that many had left the community out of fear of attacks.

He lamented that the situation had affected the education of their wards as most of parents had become refugees.
