Bekwarra:How Our Ugly History Can Become The Beautiful Forecast of An Enviable Future

As the year gradually winds down, the need for individuals and groups alike to re-evaluate the progress so far made cannot be overemphasized,hence the collective coalition of the years achievements and plans to augment on our weaknesses.

Dear Friends recall that history holds that ,in 1967 the Nigeria Civil war started from a once blessed and peaceful community called GAKEM in the today Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River state.

Like the impact of war any where in the world, this left our people in a very bad, ugly but promising shape, Fifty years and counting after the ugly incidence,the narrative still lives with us, our fathers still have very clear account of that very ugly situation; how it all began, what happened to our lands and Culture and what happened to our people and community thereafter.

The "Scavengers" have decided to dig deep into our ugly past, ponder on where we are today as a people and collates ingenious ideas on the way forward for the Bekwarra nation.

Unfortunately,many historians have failed to dig deep into the various causes of under Development in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State specifically Gakem which should be recognized as a tourist site.

Gakem is an agrarian community in BEKWARRA Local Government Area in Cross River State, where the first gunshot and damages of the Nigeria/Biafra civil war happened, it is a boundary town to Vandekiya in Benue state Nigeria.
