Most women pray to be married to great men in their lifetime. But not many women realize that objective, and they're content to make do with an average man.
While it's great to have fortune smile on a woman and set her up to be married to a political leader, to have life thrust upon a women that sort of honor twice is simply unbelievable.
We're talking about a black woman who had the privilege to be married to two great men, two presidents, in her lifetime. Now, that's not something that happens every other day. It's not even a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It's simply incredible. It doesn't happen.
Or does it? Ask this woman named Graca Machel, a Mozambican woman who had the rare opportunity to marry two presidents.
Let's meet her: Graça Machel is a Mozambican politician who was the former first lady of her country, Mozambique. She was married to Samora Machel, President of Mozambique.
Then on the passing of Samora, Graca soon found love again, this time in the arms of Nelson Mandela, who was President of South Africa at the time.
Machel is a passionate African, an international advocate for women's and children's rights and was made an honorary British Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997 for her humanitarian work.
Graça Machel is a recipient of several international awards and honor in recognition of her humanitarian projects and literary accomplishments.
She is multilingual and speaks French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and English, as well as her native Xitsonga language.
And with her record of being married to two presidents at various times, she is the only woman in modern history to have served as First Lady of two countries.
