Owo agog as Olowo gets Staff of Office (Photos)

The ancient town of Owo was agog on Saturday when the new monarch of the town, Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye was presented with the Staff of Office by the Governor of Ondo State.

The colourful ceremony which was attended by the royal father which include Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi Enitan; Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi; Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo among others was the climax of the week-long event which also coincided with the 1000 years celebration of the town’s existence.

The event was also attended by Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of the Senior Pastor of Word of Life Bible Church, Warri, Delta State as well as top government officials.

While soliciting the support of his subject at ensuring the development of the town, Oba Ogunoye emphasized that the preservation of the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Owo will be ensured.

The Governor of Ondo State, Governor Akeredolu in his remarks said the hitch-free process where Oba Ogunoye emerged is an attestation that he is loved and the choice of everyone.

Governor Akeredolu expressed his administration’s commitment to non-interference in any transparent process of selection of traditional rulers in the state. 

The Governor said the people’s tradition will not be violated for political expediency, adding that he will continue to support all practices and traditional norms that affirm life.

Oba Ogunoye ascended the throne following his installation as the 32nd Olowo on August 23, 2019, after the demise of Oba Folagbade Olateru Olagbegi.
