The person who named Nigeria is a very strong and powerful woman named Flora Shaw, and according to reports she named the Country in the year 1897 and she suggested the name from the famous Niger River.

About Flora Shaw

Dame Louise Flora Shaw who was born on the 19 of December in the year 1852 in Woolwich in London to a French Mother and English Father was a famous writer, and Journalist who was also the wife of Lord Lugard.

She got married to Lord Lugard in the year 1902 and she stood by him for many years, she was with him when he was the Colonial Administrator of Nigeria and that was when she got the chance to suggest the name Nigeria which has become one of the largest and richest Countries in Africa.

Flora Shaw sadly passed away on the 25 of January in the year 1929 at the age of 76.
