In the past three days, a video that went viral on social media showing a man in a civilian outfit hanging out an AK-47 assault rifle has sparked controversy and heated debates among Nigerians over his alleged links to the current Nigerian Defense Minister, Bashir Salihi Magashi. The Nigerian people have expressed their displeasure at the fact that the minister is not a security officer but is carrying a gun. However, they attributed the incident to self-defence opportunities due to the deteriorating security situation in the country, as they alleged.
As seen in the video, there was a man was holding some documents in his hand with a Nigerian military officer nailed to beside him. The officer opened the back door of a Mercedes G-Wagon car where he gets into the car, and the officer closed the door and saluted the man as the car was about to leave.
On the morning of this blessed Sunday, the Nigerian military headquarters commented on the video and posted a statement on its verified Facebook page describing the story as Fake News. The agency confirmed that the man in the video was not Nigeria's defence minister.
It can be said that the army's announcement did not affect the public because people are still doubtful about the announcement, because, in the whole note, the army did not disclose the name or picture of the person in the video. Even if I look at the page comment section, I find most of the public comments are based on knowing the truth of who is in the video where they post different questions like;
In my opinion, the Nigerian military should republish a statement identifying the person in the video, as failure to do so could be a major challenge for her, and the public will never be separated from doubts in their hearts.
