Ukrainian Border Guards Thwart Invasion Attempt in Bakhmut, Killing Two Dozen Invaders.

Ukrainian border guards successfully repelled an invasion attempt by two enemy assault groups in Bakhmut, resulting in the deaths of two dozen invaders. According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, after hours of skirmishes, the Wagnerites, a Russian mercenary group, retreated.

Ukrainian mortar crews shelled clusters of enemy infantry, while border snipers killed three invaders who were deploying a machine gun at the position. In total, five invaders were killed, and 16 were wounded during the day.

The attack occurred on 14 March, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to hold a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff to discuss the defence and protection of Bakhmut. The meeting resulted in a unanimous decision to reinforce the area's defences further.

The Ukrainian government has accused Russia of supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine, leading to a conflict that has lasted since 2014. While a ceasefire was agreed in 2020, tensions have continued, with sporadic clashes occurring along the border. The recent invasion attempt highlights the ongoing threat faced by Ukraine and the need for continued vigilance.
