In the northern Nigeria, Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists have been attacking innocent Nigerians and rendered thousands of people homeless as a result of their offensive campaign.

In the Southeast part of the country, the activities of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra have also posed a serious threat to the security of the region.

The recent emergence of unknown gunmen that allegedly carried out several attacks on innocent people, government facilities and security formations in the Southeast is another security threat the federal government has been trying to end.

As a result of the worsening security situation in the southeast, some Nigerians have called for the deployment of the recently acquired Super Tucano fighter jets to the Southeast region to end the menace of insecurity in the region.

However, recent revelation has shown that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot deploy the Super Tucano fighter jets to the Southeast region.

A report by PUNCH revealed that the government of United States says the Federal government of Nigeria is expected to deploy the Super Tucano aircraft only in the northern Nigeria where Boko Haram terrorists have been fighting the Nigerian government for over a decade.

This revelation has prevented Buhari-led government from deploying the Super Tucano fighter jets in the Southeast region despite the designation of IPOB as a terrorist organization and its security outfit, Eastern Security Network.

The recent revelation also showed that the federal government of Nigeria needs to device a means to tackle the spate of insecurity in the Southeast region because the Super Tucano fighter jets will not be used.

The report explained that the federal government of Nigeria is binded by the decision of the United States government to restrict the Super Tucano fighter jets to the northern region to fight Boko Haram terotists.

Recall that the Super Tucano fighter jets were purchased from the United States. The deal for the purchase of the aircrafts was earlier rejected during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. This is why the federal government of Nigeria is expected to abide by the decision of the United States government on the use of the Super Tucano.
