The report by Peoples Gazette allegedly claiming that the Nigerian Air Force, NAF made a payment of N20 million to bandits to avoid the shooting down of the presidential aircraft has caused frenetic chatters among Nigerians who believe that it stinks the competence of the country's security operatives. However, a deep look into reality proves that NAF's action meant well for the nation's airline.

There is no gainsaying the continued havoc that's been wrecked by bandits and their likes. This has become one of the undeniable security challenges facing the country. Bandits who're notorious for killings, kidnapping of children and high-profile Nigerians have left a huge toll on the Nigeria economy with their bloody activities.
NAF's alleged payment as revealed by newsmen happens to be a ransom for an anti-aircraft gun seized from the military by bandits. For this reason, it is a move that's aimed at disarming these criminals of a lethal tool which can be used to bring down not just the president aircraft but other local aircraft flying in their region of operation.

The danger bandits pose cannot be underestimated, recall that just this year, a number of air-crafts have been brought down by these criminals who're hell-bent on seeing the nation bleed. With what weapons do they achieve these kinds of strikes? It is with sophisticated weapons like this, so the retrieval of the anti-aircraft gun is a big win for the country's security.

To some Nigerians, the military ought not to have paid for the ransom. As it is expected, the military should have used the combat method. However, the NAF knows better the challenges that lie before them and opted for the best approach to tackle it.
What I think Nigerians should be concerned about is the advantages that this particular move by the NAF would bring to the security structure of the country.
