Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has reacted to a report that the UK Visas and Immigration Department has released new guidelines to its decision makers on how to consider granting asylum applications by members of Biafran Secessionist groups.
Lai Mohammed, speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), described the new decision as a disrespect on Nigeria.
According to him, the decision would sabotage Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and undermine its security.
The honorable minister, speaking further, said that if the reports about UK granting asylum to IPOB & MASSOB members is true, then something is wrong.
He also reiterated that IPOB is not only a proscribed group, but has been designated a terrorist organization.
Earlier today, The Cable, reported that Asylum will be to granted to “persecuted” members of IPOB, a group that has been designated a terrorist organization by the Nigerian Government, and also members of MASSOB.
It’s learnt that the division of the Home Office, directed all their decision makers to consider if a person who openly supports IPOB is likely to be arrested and amounted to persecution.
