Opinion: Why Farouk Yahaya's order to crush the bandits should be applauded

lnsecurity is the major challenge that has befallen Nigeria. The military has done well in tackling the menace, especially in the north. This made the Senate, the northern elders forum, call on the FG to declare the bandits terrorists in order to take drastic measures against them. While addressing the military hierarchy on his visit to Niger state, Farouk Yahaya called on the military to kill the bandits and criminals and bring their weapons and corpses.

They have successfully invaded communities, called for emergency meetings, deposed community leaders, and installed their dangerous men as the new authorities. They're doing this without any remorse. Given that they collected a large amount of tax, wages, and so on. It will be recalled that the FG has, through President Buhari's media aide, Garba Shehu, warned the bandits that their kingship in parts of the north is a fool's paradise.

Previously, the activities and reasons why the bandits are waging war against the north weren't known, but their recent act of deposing community leaders and installing their own men has put to light that they want to install Islamic rule, which is not different from the activities of the Boko Haram, prompting many to suggest whether the bandits are offshoots of Boko Haram who want to hide under the undesignated group to further their mission. Now that the military personnel have been given the order to crush the bandits, it's likely that they will be surrendering in droves, since nobody wants to die. With the latest move by Yahaya, the north is likely going to experience peace in a short time. The people should also help and give the military relevant information that would help track down the evil men, since security is a collective work for everyone.
