How the FG pardoned 102 ex-Biafran soldiers and promised to pay their gratuities

The news about the FG's pardon of ex-Biafran soldiers is a thing of joy. Many Igbos who fought on the side of the Biafrans during the Biafran/Nigeria civil war are today suffering from abject poverty, untimely death, incurable sicknesses, etc.

The Biafran/Nigeria Civil war lasted close to three years. After the war, the military Head of State, General Gowon, declared the war a no-win, no-vanquish battle to ensure the nation's unity. Since the end of the war, many Nigerian governments have done things that would help reintegrate the Biafran soldiers who survived the war to make sure that they feel at home in Nigeria, so that they will keep the war memory out of their minds.

During the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the FG, through the Minister of defense, Major General Bashir Magashi, retired, said that the FG had pardoned about 102 ex-Biafran soldiers. He maintained that the soldiers had been captured for payment of gratuities and other emoluments by the military pension board. The nation's online news reported.

The Biafran soldiers are likely going to be in a mood of rejoicing and celebration, because many of them have concluded that they have lost everything, and have no reason to be alive.

The FG has proved that they are not in any way against the Igbos as felt in some quarters. It's important to note that those ex-soldiers may be receiving a large amount of money that can be used to upgrade their families' lives. It is believed that there may be some of the ex-Biafran soldiers who may not have been enrolled in the project. They should ask questions about how to achieve this, since it's their right and no one should deny it to them. The FG should also make sure that this program is extended to those who may be living in a remote area that may not be able to get the necessary information as at when due for proper response, identification and enrollment.

What do you think about this? Is this not another way President Buhari has shown Igbos love? Kindly react effectively. Share and like this work. Follow us for updates.
