Night Hunter, A Helicopter Nigeria Might Buy From Russia As Military Seal Bilateral Collaboration

Nigeria's Army Boss Faruk Yahaya has called on the Russian government to support Nigeria with “sophisticated equipment” to improve security in the country. The army chief also spoke on the need to support collaboration between Russia and Nigeria. General Faruk Yahaya also stated that the Nigerian Army will further explore the cordial bilateral relations between the Nigerian army and Russian government for acquisition of military equipment to enhance its operations across the country.

Reminiscing the long existing relationship between the Nigerian army and Russia, the Army Chief expressed the need to rekindle the relationship for their mutual benefit. The Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, lauded the contributions of the Nigerian army in the stability of the continent and described Nigeria as critical on the African continent in terms of military capability, trade and investment.

However, one of the helicopters that Russia might sell to Nigeria is the MI-28 "Night Hunter". An anti-armor attack helicopter that operates on a day-night, all-weather basis, hence the nickname ‘Night Hunter’. Characteristic of most Russiam defence products, it is one of the most heavily armed helicopter in the world. Weapons loadouts include a variety of missiles, rockets and an automatic autocannon that has a fire rate between 200 and 800 rounds per minute.
