In this article, I'll be talking about the 5 best machine guns to ever go to war for any military. All the machine guns listed below are general-purpose machine guns.


1. PKM

The PKM is a belt-fed machine gun chambered for the 7.62×54mmR cartridge. It was designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov in the Soviet Union presently Russia.

The PKM was adopted into service in 1969. The PKM is 1,192 mm (46.9 inches) in length and the mass is 7.5 kg (16.53 lb) (gun + integral bipod) + 4.5 kg (9.92 lb) (tripod).


The FN MAG is a Belgian machine gun that was designed in the 1950s by Ernest Vervier. 

FN MAG is a Gas-operated, long-stroke piston and open bolt gun chambered for a 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge.

3. MG3 and variants

The MG 3 is a German machine gun chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. 

The MG3 is an air-cooled, automatic and belt-fed short recoil-operated gun that fired the 7.92×57mm Mauser round.

4. Vektor SS-77

The Vektor SS-77 is designed and manufactured by Denel Land System which was formerly Lyttleton Engineering Works.

The SS-77 is a gas-operated machine gun that does not have a gas regulator. The SS-77 is a belt-fed machine gun chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO round. 

5. IWI Negev NG7

The IWI Negev was manufactured by Israel Weapon Industries which was formerly Israel Military Industries Ltd. It was adopted around 2012.

Negev NG7 is chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. It is a gas-operated, rotating bolt gun that has a barrel length of 508 mm (20 inches).
