When you travel around the world, you will be astounded by the ways Nigerians represent themselves. Except for countries with immigration limits, there is no country in the world where you will not see Nigerians. Nigerians in other countries are not only there to linger but to make things happen. They serve in the army, navy, police/military, and even the government. They are there because those countries considered them worthy. A Nigerian naval officer from the United States of America is about to make history.
Kelechi Ndukwe is a Navy officer who works in three sections on the joint staff (The force structure, Assessment Decorate and Resource). He earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He then went on to the United States Naval War College to earn his Master's degree in National Security and Strategy. Kelechi, who is a Warfare Officer, has served on various warships and has previously deployed to the Horn of Africa, the Western Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Arabian Gulf.
He had the opportunity to serve as a Minesweeper stationed in Bahrain and as the commanding officer of the USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6) during some of his recent sea assignments.
Kelechi Ndukwe has been promoted to Commander in Charge of a US Navy Guided Missile Destroyer, the USS Halsey, as a reward for his outstanding service in the US Navy (DDG-97). He will take over the office on April 2, 2021, in this capacity. After taking over, he will be the first Nigerian to serve in this role.
I'm not sure about you, but I'm incredibly proud of him. Are you one of them?
