Bandits Attack Zamfara Town, Ransack Two Police Facilities Military Operations

Suspected bandits have attacked Shinkafi town in Zamfara State, where they ransacked two police facilities and carted away arms on Friday.

In their usual style, they stormed Shinkafi town, shooting sporadically to scare residents away.

Shinkafi town is located on the road linking Zamfara with the neighbouring Sokoto State. Bandits are known to have attacked the town at various times in the past.

Daily Trust reports that a resident of the town who spoke from Sokoto had confirmed the report as there is no telecommunication network in Zamfara as a result of the shutdown earlier this month.

According to the source, a threat letter was sent to the community earlier that day. Two bandits’ leaders near the community, Kachalla Turji and Halilu Sububu, in the letter, announced a joint mission to attack Shinkafi and its environs.

Recall that the government decided to shutdown telecommunication networks in the state to help a military offensive against the insurgents but that has not stopped this latest attack on the village.
