It was an outrageous incident, following the death of 36 residents of the Shikaan Mgbagena Kpav community in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State. People were massacred gruesomely in their homes by the attackers.
It was gathered that the attackers stormed the community on Thursday, May 27 and killed so many people including students of the College of Education, Kastina-Ala.
Unconfirmed report revealed that the herdsmen were led by one Aketi, a newly emerged militia leader from Mbagena in Michihe community of Kastina-Ala Local government. A source said Aketi is the first gang leader to have aligned himself with the herdsmen.
Many Nigerians have reacted bitterly as the photos of victims were shared on social media. People while condemning the attack called the federal government and security agencies to protect the life of people living in Benue state. Using the hash tag; BenueUnderAttack, Nigerians called on the government to save the people of Benue state.
Amongst those reacted is Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, she said the gory images emerging from the community has dampened her spirit.
Another Twitter user by name Jamal, said it is sad that people were butchered like cattle in their homeland.
