Many Nigerians have expressed their concerns about the safety of their loved ones and their personal property in light of the current level of unrest in the country. People like former Multi-National Joint Task Force Commander Brig-Gen Jon Temlong (rtd) feel that the government cannot handle Nigeria's security problems on its own.

According to an article by John Temlong in the Daily Trust, terrorists use a variety of methods, and the actions of a few individuals provide them the opportunity to do so. According to him, terrorists receive information from'mai guards' that individuals keep in their homes, as well as water suppliers, when they plan an assault.

He further said that these terrorists purchase motorcycles and hire drivers to transport them. He claimed that these terrorists reside among us, and that we provide them with food, motorcycles, and petrol for their vehicles.
He urged Nigerians to take security concerns seriously and not rely solely on security operatives to deal with them. He said.
