Cameroon Returns 855 Repentant Boko Haram Fighters To Nigeria - Bulama Bukarti Alleges

Bulama Bukarti, a popular journalist, has revealed that 855 repentant Boko Haram insurgents were handed over to the Nigerian government by Cameroon last week.

Bukarti added that the ex-terrorists fled to Cameroon following the death of Abubakar Shekau a few months ago. They were handed over to the federal government last week having been found to be Nigerians.

The journalist, who specializes in terrorism reporting, said the ex-terrorists wouldn't have gone through the rehabilitation program in Cameroon and they would likely be enrolled in Nigeria.

Bulama Bukarti made this known on his verified Twitter handle on Monday, September 20, 2021.

He said: "Cameroon returned 855 Boko Haram defectors to Nigeria on Friday, reports L'Oeil du Sahel, a Cameroonian outlet. A source in Maiduguri told me that he saw the convoy arrive in Maiduguri last week. This hasn't been covered by the Nigerian media, possibly because the government hasn't made it public."

In recent times, thousands of Boko Haram insurgents have surrendered to the military in Borno State. The military said the terrorists surrendered due to the ongoing military operations in the North East.

The government planned to rehabilitate and reintegrate ex-terrorists back into society.
