Chinwetalu Agu Should Not Have Worn The Biafran Flag

It is no longer news that three different Military operations are currently going on in some parts of the country. They are:

1.) Exercise Golden Dawn which is meant to tackle kidnapping, insurgency and increasing Banditry in the South-East.

2. Operation Still Water in both the South-South and South-West.

3.) Operation Enduring Peace in the North-Central and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

However, it is of note that the security situation in the South-East has been volatile since the recent past months. And the tenseness in the region is attributable to the activities of the unknown gunmen whom some people regard as members of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB).

The IPOB have been agitating for the actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra for years. And to protect the members, their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, created the Eastern Security Network (ESN) which is an armed unit of the IPOB about a year ago. But shortly afterwards, wanton killings and destructions of property across the five States of the region started taking the centre stage. However, the leadership of the IPOB have always debunked the allegations relating the Inhuman acts to the ESN.

The worsening insecurity in the South-Eastern region necessitated the introduction of Operation Golden Dawn by the NigerIan Joint Military Task Forces; and it was launched by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt General Farouk Yahaya in Enugu State on Monday.

However, the recent rate of killings and destructions of property in Anambra State has become so high that rumours have been flying about that the federal government is planning to declare a state of emergency over there. Nevertheless, since the issue of the IPOB's agitations for the recognition of the Biafra Nation is one of the nagging challenges in the South-East, it therefore becomes unlwaful for the Biafran flag to be seen with anyone by the security forces. But unfortunately a veteran Nollywood actor in the person of Chinwetalu Agu happened to be a breaker of the warning.

A moment ago in Onitsha - the capital city of Anambra State - Mr Agu was seen wearing a shirt that was made with the colour of the Biafran flag onboard his vehicle by the Soldiers on duty at a roadblock. And he was allegedly beaten up, as well as arrested as a result.

Considering the famous actor's encounter with the Military men, it will be said that he should have acted in accordance to the law that no one should be seen with the flag of the proposed Biafra Nation. Obedience is better than sacrifice. And the law is not a respecter of anyone big or small.

And although, some persons are of the position that anyone can wear any design or colour of cloth he wishes, yet, since the government has warned against a particular one, it then, behooves the governed to abide by it.
