An unprecedented development report that took place yesterday has disclosed how some unknown gunmen have attacked the residence of the Special Adviser on Water and Drainage to the Lagos State government, Joe Igbokwe in his hometown in Nnewi, Anambra State, and razed his building.

The development which took place yesterday raised many concerns and reactions from many Nigerians as these gunmen were said to have arrived at his home with jerrycans of petrol in a Sienna vehicle which was eventually used to set the building ablaze.
Amid the recent development on ground, it may interest us to recall how these same unknown gunmen had attacked and killed Chike Akunyili, the husband to the former Chairman of NAFDAC, late Dora Akunyili while he was returning from a convention in Onitsha, Anambra state.
After the ugly report circulated online, Joe Igbokwe had taken to his social media handle to urge the President Buhari-led government to declare a state of emergency in the Southeast as a measure to reduce this very sinister.

However, his suggestion failed to yield any positive results as such issues were strictly meant to be handled by the state government and not the Federal government. Similarly, now that his home has been razed down by these unknown gunmen, my simple question is; Will the FG now declare a state of emergency in the Southeast following the recent development?

Consequently, I don't think this is enough issue for the Federal government to declare a state of emergency in one whole region over an issue that happened only in one state. However, I believe it's left for the Anambra state government to devise a means of nabbing these outlaws and bringing them to justice.
