You and I know that any individual or group that is a threat to the progress of Nigeria does not want good for the country so what should we call such people other than terrorist? The argument for bandits to be declared as terrorists has surfaced online, as members of the House of Representatives, like their counterpart in the Senate, on Thursday, asked the Nigerian Government to designate bandits as terrorists.

The Senate had on Wednesday, suggested the same resolution on bandits, following the deliberation on a motion on the activities of bandits in Sokoto State, sponsored by Ibrahim Gobir (the Chairman of APC in Sokoto East).

Babjimi Benson (APC, Lagos), who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, moved a motion on the floor of the House, urging the government to declare bandits as terrorists. In his motion, Benson said the move will underline the determination of the government to fight the plague of criminality and murders committed by bandits all over the country, stressing that the move will also serve as a brave impetus to the military in the fight against insecurity and criminality in the country.

In my opinion, declaring bandits as terrorists will help to prosecute bandits under the Terrorism Prevention Act of the amended Nigerian Constitution, 2011.
Meanwhile, the House also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the security summit of the House. Earlier, the lower legislative chambers held a security summit on May, 2021, and submitted to the President.
