Amid the chaotic wave of insecurity that is currently playing out in the southeast region, the Minister of Defense, Rtd Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi has led a delegation of the security chiefs and government officials to a high-powered security town hall meeting in the southeast state of Enugu.
The minister had later engaged in a closed-door meeting with all the Governors of the southeast geo-political zone and other Elders of the region that span through the political, religious, and traditional institutions in the region.
The meeting which held at the Enugu State Government House comes as a resort to end the incessant killings and heavy security presence in the region that has cost some of the residents their lives and destruction of their hard-earned property.
Recall the President, Muhammadu Buhari in his interview, had mentioned that the governors of the region should not wait for him but should go ahead and make necessary arrangements that will bring peace back to their domains.
The town hall meeting seeks to make findings and lasting decisions that will bring peace to the region.
The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi welcomed the team and noted that the meeting came at the right time.
He further added that the town hall meeting would afford the region to have a first-hand report of the security situation in the region and also, would give the elders of the region an opportunity to reach out to the main players and get the real situation report of the security issues within the region.
