Recall how nine candidates in the governorship election have called on the Federal Government to demilitarise the South-East zone in a bid to stem the heightened tension in the area. The nine candidates have asked the federal government of Nigeria to remove all military forces from the Southeast region.

The question here is that, are those calling FG to demilitarise the Southeast know the evil unknown gunmen have done? Few hours ago report gathered that unidentified gunmen have allegedly killed 17 persons in Effium community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. According to reports, the attackers invaded the community on Saturday, shooting sporadically at residents, some of whom sustained injuries while 17 died.
For some months, we have seen how unknown gunmen have been striking the Southeast region. Several states in the southeast region have recorded how these lethal gangs are wandering around killing innocent civilians, targeting security personnel, and destroying government property. With their deadly activities, they have made life miserable for inhabitants in the southeast. With all this evil committed by these murderous gangs, I see no reason why the nine candidates in the Anambra governorship election asked the federal government to withdraw the military presence from the Southeast region. I believe it would be good for the federal government to allow security officers to remain in the southeast to aid in the elimination of the gunmen who are wreaking havoc on the region.
