Tension As Bandits Attack Again

Armed bandits have reportedly abducted 27 people during an attack at Gatawa village in Sabon Brinin Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Sa'idu Ibrahim, a member of the State House of Assembly representing Sabon Birni East Constituency, confirmed the development to reporters in Sokoto on Thursday. According to the lawmaker, the bandits are now targeting security formations in the area.

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai eliminated 85 Boko Haram/Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), terrorists in one month.

Brig-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, stated this in Abuja while providing an update on military operations across Nigeria from September 2 to September 30.

Onyeuko also stated that a total of 2,783 terrorists and their family members surrendered to troops as a result of the intensity of artillery and air bombardment during the period, as part of the ongoing mass surrender by Boko Haram members in Borno State.

Declare bandits terrorists- Reps urge Buhari

Barely 24 hours after the Senate called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits terrorists, the House of Representatives has also called on the president to do the same.

That resolution followed Babajimi Benson's motion of urgent public importance on Thursday.

It would be recalled that the Senate on Wednesday resolved that the president should make the declaration.

According to Benson, the move will ensure that bandits and their sponsors face prosecution under the Terrorism Prevention Act.

Over 2,000 bandit informants, others arrested in Zamfara – Commissioner

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, on Thursday, said over 2000 bandit informants have been arrested.

Dosara also stated that food suppliers to the bandits were among those arrested, revealing that the bandits have resorted to eating raw Okra and grasses for survival, despite the fact that 80% of the bandits have fled to neighboring Sokoto State.

Addressing reporters in Kaduna, the commissioner said there were highly placed individuals in the society among the informants, adding that they are already providing useful information to the state government.
