Nigeria must prevent infiltration of armed Sudanese fighters – Ex-Immigration ACG

The former Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration in Nigeria, Mr. Abdulahi Rakieu, has called on the Nigerian government to take urgent measures to prevent the infiltration of armed Sudanese fighters into the country. According to Rakieu, who is also the chairman of the Northeast Security Summit, the influx of these fighters could have serious security implications for Nigeria and the entire West African sub-region.

Rakieu's warning comes amid reports of clashes between Sudanese rebels and government forces in the Darfur region of Sudan. The conflict has reportedly led to the displacement of thousands of people and raised concerns about the possible spread of violence to neighboring countries.

Rakieu has urged the Nigerian government to strengthen security at its borders and work closely with its neighbors to prevent the infiltration of armed groups. He also called for improved intelligence gathering and sharing among security agencies, as well as increased support for the Nigerian military and other security forces.

Nigeria, which is Africa's most populous country, has been grappling with various security challenges in recent years, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes. The government has deployed troops to various parts of the country to address these challenges, but the security situation remains precarious in many areas.

The country shares borders with several West African countries, including Chad, Niger, Cameroon, and the Benin Republic. These borders are often porous, making them vulnerable to infiltration by armed groups and smugglers.

Rakieu's warning underscores the need for the Nigerian government to take proactive measures to secure its borders and prevent the infiltration of armed groups, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Sudan and other parts of Africa.
