The second on my list is on the same rank with the chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Buratai.
1- Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai
Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai is the current and 26th Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, appointed to the position by President Muhammadu Buhari on July 13, 2015.He was commissioned in 1983 and has had multiple command, administrative, and instructional appointments.
Background and education:
General Buratai is from Buratai town, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. His father, Yusuf Buratai, was a non commissioned officer in the Royal West African Frontier Force and World War II veteran who fought in Burma. General Buratai had his primary education at Buratai town and thereafter gained admission to Government Teachers College Potiskum, Yobe State, where he graduated with distinction.
In January 1981, Buratai attended the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna as a member of the 29 Regular Combatant Course (29 RC) where he was given the prestigious appointment of Cadet Sergeant Major (CSM). On successful completion of his Officer Cadet training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 17 December 1983 into the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army. Buratai has a degree in History from University of Maiduguri and a degree in Philosophy from Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dhaka. He is also a graduate of National Defence College, Mirpur, Bangladesh.
He served in 26 Amphibious Battalion Elele, Port Harcourt, Military Observer at the United Nations Verification Mission II in Angola; later 26 Guards Battalion, Lagos; Lagos Garrison Command Camp. Lt Gen Buratai also served as administrative officer at the State House, Abuja; 82 Motorized Battalion; 81 Battalion, Bakassi Peninsular; Army Headquarters Garrison, Abuja before he became a Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, earning the prestigious "Pass Staff College Dagger" (psc(+)) appellation.
Subsequently, he served at AHQ Dept of Army Policy and Plans, Abuja; Assistant Chief of Staff Administrative Matters, HQ Infantry Centre Jaji. Additionally, he was again at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College as Director Dept of Land Warfare from where he was appointed Commander 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, doubling as Commander, Sector 2 JTF Operation PULO SHIELD. Upon promotion to the rank of Major General, he was appointed Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji; thereafter he was appointed Director of Procurement DHQ before being appointed Force Commander of the newly reconstituted Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTNF) under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin Republic, an appointment he held till he became Chief of Army Staff.
2- Lieutenant- General Lamidi Adeosun
Lieutenant- General Adeosun was born in Ola-Oluwa Local Government of Osun State on August 22, 1963.
He enrolled into the Nigeria Army on July 4, 1983 and rose through the ranks until he attained the position of major general on July 4, 2014.
He is an experienced infantry officer with cognate administrative and battle experience.
He had served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) in charge of 7 Division of the Army in Maiduguri; and was later redeployed to head the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), headquartered in Chad.
He was replaced as MNJTF commander with General Lucky Irabor in May, 2017, and was recalled to the Defence Headquarters as Director of Administration.
In December 2017, he was appointed to head the Infantry Corps for seven months before he was redeployed in July 2018 to his present position as chief of training and operations.
3- General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin
He is responsible for the training, planning and directing of military operations by continuous assessment and evaluation of possible threat areas in the overall national defence.
General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin was born on the 2 Dec 61 in Kaduna, but hails from Gboyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State. He began his military career as far back as 1973 as a soldier boy in Nigerian Military School Zaria. He was later admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy and commenced cadet training on 3 January 1979, as a member of 25 Regular Combatant Course. Gen Olonisakin was later commissioned on 18 December 1981 as a Second Lieutenant and was posted to Nigerian Army Signals Corps.
In the course of his career, the General attended various military courses, attaining highly decent grades with several awards. The courses amongst others include; Young Officers Course (Signals), Young Officers Course (Infantry), Squadron Commanders Course, Communication Management Course and Commanding Officers Course (Infantry). Others include; Regimental Commanders Course; Junior Staff Course, Senior Staff Course as well as National War College (National Defence College).
In the field of Academics, he holds degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BSc Electronic Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Diploma Electronic and Telecoms Engineering also from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife with specialties in Telecommunication Engineering, Power Engineering, Satellite Communications and Control.
The General also held various appointments in Command, Staff and Instruction appointments among which are; Director Nigerian Army System Development Centre Lagos, Director Department of Army Data Processing, Commander 51 Division Signals Kaduna and Commander 59 Division Signals Lagos.
He was Commandant Nigerian Army School of Signals, Commander Corps of Signals and until his current appointment, Commander Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC ). The General also holds Staff appointments some of which are; Grade II Staff Officer Operations/Training (G2 Ops/Trg) Nigerian Army School of Signals and also Military Assistant to Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College. General Olonisakin was at one time an Instructor – Nigerian Army School of Signals, a Directing Staff, Armed Forces Command and Staff College as well as Aid- de- Camp To Governor Lagos/Ogun State
The General has equally participated in various operations home and abroad. Notable among the operations he has participated is United Nations Angola Verification Mission (UNAVEM III). During this period the Force Commander recognized him as a gentleman officer with sterling leadership qualities.
