Troops kill over 394 bandits, 85 terrorists in three weeks —DHQ

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said over 394 armed bandits and 85 Boko Haram and Islamic terrorists were killed by troops in their various theatres of operations in the last three weeks.

It said while the terrorists were neutralised in Borno communities, the bandits were killed in Zamfara, Kaduna, Kano and Taraba states.

The acting Director, Defence Media Organisation, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko, disclosed these at a media briefing on the activities of troops between September 2 and 30 at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

He said 105 terrorists and bandits, their collaborators and suspected kidnappers were arrested.

Kano CAN demands justice over killing of pastor

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kano State Chapter has called on those arrested in connection with the killing of Sumaila town CAN Coordinator, Pastor Shuaibu Yohanna in Sunmaila local government area of Kano state.

According to a statement signed by the Kano CAN Chairman, Rev. Samuel Adeyemo and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Kano, he called on the security agencies to ensure that the culprits are dealt with accordingly.

Bandits can be won over by showing them respect and understanding, says controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi.

Mr Gumi, a self-appointed mediator for the brigands that have been wreaking havoc in many northern states, says his interaction with the bandits have been easy because he always “go(es) through the door.”

“I go through the door, not the window. If you go through the door, you will go in and come back safely,” Mr Gumi said while fielding questions from students at a lecture in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on Wednesday.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday evening, Bashir described the development as a sign of democracy.
