Why Malami got it wrong when he said that FG would not name the prosecuted sponsors of terrorism

Mr. Malami, the attorney general of the federation, is in the news from the United States of America, where the world is gathering for a historical UN General Assembly meeting in New York City. He spoke on the issue bordering on sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria. The minister of Justice declared that they would not be naming the sponsors of terrorism who are already in court, to avoid stalling the process of getting to the root of the problem, and to avoid sabotaging the trial and investigation process.

The speech was received with a pinch of salt because observers are of the opinion that such a sensitive case should not be hidden from public assessment since it's a matter that has generated controversy both in Nigeria and beyond. Former Army Chief, Olawunmi, stated on a live TV show that the Buhari administration is spoiling the sponsors who were named for funding terror in Nigeria.

The US has also declared that they may name those sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria. Since this statement was made, the FG has not demanded the names of the sponsors. Lately, the UAE named about six Nigerians who are among those sponsoring terrorism in the world. It's not clear whether the FG has done anything or has arrested the suspects and brought them to book.

Now that FG is saying that they are already prosecuting some people who are sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria, the need to declare their identity becomes inevitable for people to monitor the court process and to make sure that justice is served at the end. With that, the world would also be aware of what the FG is doing to end terror, which is a global threat and not a personal or hidden agenda. Let the cat out of the bag so that more confidence can be built in Nigeria's readiness and preparedness to tackle the menace of terrorism in Nigeria. The US has done so much to help Nigeria curb terrorism in areas like funds, weapons, Tucano fighter jets, etc.

What do you think about this? Don't you think that this sensitive issue should not be in the dark since it's a global threat? Kindly send us your comments below the box. Share and like this work. Follow us for updates.
