The Burning Of Houses By Nigerian Soldiers In Imo: Why The Reprisal Attack Is Not The Best Solution

The incessant fight between some residents in Imo State and Nigerian military have caused a lot of tension within the state.

Few weeks ago, many houses were destroyed and some people were equally killed in Izombe after the Nigerian military clashed with some youths in the community. This incident caused many mixed reactions from residents in Imo State.

However, despite what happened in Izombe, there was another tension at Etekuru in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State when soldiers and youths in the community clashed.

According to some reports, a soldier had earlier been ambushed and killed while his rifle was stolen by some people within the community.

The spokesperson for "34 Artillery Brigade" Command in Obinze (Joseph Akuga) have not responded to the incident.

Nevertheless, I believe that the reprisal attack carried out by the Nigerian military at Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State is not the best solution.

This is because innocent citizens and their properties may be affected during the reprisal attack by the soldiers. Also, little children within the community may be exposed to the attack and this may affect their mental health.

I believe that the Nigerian military should have conducted a proper investigation to know the people that truly attacked a soldier in the community instead of attacking the community.

Therefore, I will advise the Nigerian military to peacefully resolve the issue and arrest the people that killed their member in Ohaji Egbema community Local Government Area.
