Why Is The IPOB Killing Their Own People If They Are Truly Fighting For The Igbos

For a while now, there have been several reports of attacks and killings in different parts of the South-East region of Nigeria, by unidentified gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Recall that the outlawed group has often presented itself to be fighting for the interests of the Igbo people. However, a closer look at the victims of the attacks, revealed that many of them were Igbos.

It should be recalled that not long ago, a report by the Punch News, revealed that about 175 people have been killed in the South-East in recent times. This includes security agents, and civilians. Sadly, among the security agents that have been killed in the region, many of them are Igbos. At the same time, civilians who have been killed within the same period are equally Igbos.

Amid the wave of attacks and killings in the region, the proscribed IPOB, and its members have been alleged to be responsible for it. With this, we may begin to ask ourselves why is the group killing their own people if they are truly fighting for the Igbos as they have often claimed. There is no doubt that killing is a condemnable act, and that no one deserves to be killed. However, killing the same set of people you claim to be fighting for is not justifiable.

To this end, one may not be wrong to say that indeed, the IPOB is no longer fighting for the interests of the Igbo people. The group can be argued to have moved to fight for an interest that is best known to them. You will agree with me that the continued killing of their own people, all in the name of fighting for the same people, makes it difficult to believe that the group is fighting for the interests of the Igbo people. It has no evidence to prove that the group is fighting for the Igbos as it has often claimed.
