The story of Ishaq Ibrahim Abubakar, a 38-year-old trained pilot who is now a tailor is pathetic! His story left many Nigerians wondering what could have made him drop his ambition of flying planes to sowing clothes.
Ishaq was fortunate to be one of the 100 young graduates that the Kano State government sponsored to Jordan in 2013 to attend a professional pilot training course.
Ishaq completed the training successfully and returned to Nigeria only to end up a tailor in the street of Kano .
Abubakar who was born at Fagge Quarters in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, is a graduate of Bayero University, Kano where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics.
At the end of the training, Abubakar obtained a Commercial Pilot License with an ‘A’ rating in multi-engine aircraft as commercial pilot. He also received certification in other relevant papers.
However, Abubakar's hope of flying aircraft sunk when as a trained pilot, he could not meet up with some requirements which bother on financial commitments for him to be fully employed as a pilot.
Abubakar while speaking to Daily Trust about his plight said the requirement is that all pilots from any part of the world must obtain extra training for specialisation after graduating from the flying academy,
He said a pilot's license alone is not valid for direct employment in the commercial aviation sector unless the pilot has a certificate of specialisation in one particular aircraft.
Abubakar explained to the paper that the specialisation training which is called type-rating in the aviation sector make it mandatory by law for a pilot to select one particular aircraft to have a speciality on.
According to Abubakar, the cost of getting the specialization training is too much for any of them who were sponsored by the the Kano government to afford. Since Abubakar could not continue to be unemployed, he took to sowing to make ends meet.
