Why the US advised FG against deploying Tucano fighter jets in the South East

It's no longer a new thing that the US government has warned the Nigeria Government not to use the Tucano fighter jets in the South East. The warning comes amid growing agitation from some quarters, who are putting pressure on the FG to declare a state of emergency in the South East. The Minister of Justice has been in the news for some time now, advocating tougher measures in dealing with the seccessionist groups in the South East.

The Tucano fighter jets were sent to Nigeria to help destabilize the terrorists in the north. Boko Haram, ISWAP, and bandits are waging war against the Nigeria state. The US was optimistic that the jet fighters should only be used against terrorists and not the seccessionist groups. The South East citizens are fearing the possibility of the FG not adhering to the documents signed with the US before they released the jet fighters. The Ohaneze Ndigbo leadership has warned against the deployment of Tucano fighter jets in the East, lamenting that it would decimate the citizens who are busy doing their legitimate business in the East.

With the latest warning coming from the US, it's a kind of a reminder to the FG not to decide otherwise. Igbos are happy that the US has reinstated its earlier position against the use of fighter jets in the South East region. On its own part, the FG has not in any way declared its intentions to go against the wishes of the US and the South East. The FG is aware that the issue bordering on seccession activities is not in any way equalled with the activities of the terrorist groups in the north. The unknown gunmen attacks in the east are mainly against the security agencies, while the terrorist activities in the north involve killing, maiming, raping, kidnapping, and destruction of properties belonging to the state and its citizens.

The FG declared the IPOB a terrorist organization a few years ago, while most foreign countries have refused to recognize the IPOB group as an outlawed organization, saying that they only recognize the group as a seccessionist group. In Nigeria, the activities of the IPOB are outlawed since they are campaigning for the balkanization of the Nigeria state.

What do you think about this? Don't you think that the US is right when they say that the Tucano fighter jets should be restricted to the north and not in the south-east? Kindly send us your comments below the box. Share and like this work. Follow us for updates.
