Kaduna State has remained one of the states with a high rate of security challenges in the country as bandits and other criminal elements carryout regular attacks on innocent people.
The Kaduna State Government led by Governor Nasir El-Rufai insisted that it would never negotiate with the bandits or pay ransom to them no matter what happened. Instead, he prefers that the security forces be unleashed on the bandits and other criminal elements attacking, kidnapping and killing people in Kaduna and others parts of the country.

How joint combats left 50 bandits dead in Kaduna dreaded forest
The Nigerian Armed Forces have decided to adopt a better and more effective strategy in combating the bandits and other criminal groups since the initial method was not working very well. Before now, one layer of operation may be carried out such as ground attack alone. In that case, many of the bandits will find a way to escape. It might also be air operation alone, the bandits will find cover in their thick and dreaded forest which they use as hideout.

This latest onslaught against the bandits in the dreaded forest called Saulawa-Farin Ruwa in Birnin-Gwari LGA in Kaduna involved a joint air and ground operations against the bandits by the Nigerian troops. It simply means that both the land forces and air forces were striking the bandits at the same time with the air wing providing the needed aerial intelligence and reconnaissance as the strikes went on.

It is hoped that more of such assaults will be carried out to deal decisively with the bandits and other criminal elements making life hard for innocent people through their heartless attacks, kidnap for ransom and killing of law-abiding Nigerians.

Lessons have been learnt by Nigerian Armed Forces, Kaduna State Government and other Nigerians from the kind of success recorded in this operation. It is now clear that the better strategy is to undertake joint ground and air strikes against the bandits. One layer attack alone is not very effective as experiences have shown. Moreover, Nigerian Armed Forces have even lost some of their men during one layer operation as the bandits have ways of resisting such and fighting back leading to losses on their side and on the side other side too.
