“Bandits Took Advantage Of Network And Attacked” - Source Speaks On How Military Troops Were Killed

On Saturday, 12 military personnel were murdered by bandits in Zamfara State after they laid an ambush on the army base in Mutumji, Zamfara State.

A security source who spoke to Daily Trust confirmed the incident while narrating what happened. He said that the operation of the bandits was successful because of the lack of communication in Zamfara. Earlier, before the operation, the Nigerian government complied with the plea by the state governor, Muhammad Matawalle to shut down all telecommunications network in Zamfara State.

Addressing newsmen, the security source confirmed that the attack started at around 10:30 am. The bandits engaged the troops in a fierce gun battle where 12 security personnel were killed.

He said during the attack, the bandits took advantage of the lack of communication between the security forces to succeed in their ambush.

“The bandits took advantage of this and attacked them at their forward operating base. As you can see, the attack was launched on Saturday, but it only came to the fore days after,” says the security source.

Speaking of people with proper communication gadgets, he disclosed that only the top commanders had military radios or walkie-talkies. The personnel in the frontline of the war only had their mobile phones which they couldn't use because the telecommunications network in the state was shut down.

In such an operation, special communication gadgets are supposed to be given to the military. The decision to cut off communication is not a bad idea as it was reported that it gave the military huge success in the operation.
