According to the Daily Trust, no fewer than 18 people were reportedly dead after suspected bandits attacked a mosque in Maza-Kuka Community, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The gunmen stormed the mosque when worshippers were planning to observe prayer in the early hours of Monday, October 25, 2021.
The bandits who came on motorcycles also kidnapped about 13 people from the mosque.
There is an ongoing discussion on whether to declare bandits as terrorists or not.
According to reports, the military cannot use some sophisticated weapons like Super Tucano bomber jets in the fight against banditry in the North West unless they are declared as terrorists.
In my opinion, there is a need to declare the bandits terrorizing the North East and some parts of the North Central as soon as possible. Their operation and action is not different from terrorist organizations.
President Buhari should yield to the request of the National Assembly and declare bandits as terrorists immediately.
