It is no longer news that a new Biafra militant group recently emerged in the South-East region of Nigeria. The group identified as the Biafra Motherland Warrior, is alleged to be targeting security agents just like the Eastern Security Network (ESN). It should be recalled that members of the ESN have been accused of masquerading as unknown gunmen to carry out attacks on security architectures in the South-East region.
Following the efforts of the government and security agencies, the group was eventually subdued, leading to a reduction in the frequency and magnitude of the attacks in the region. Sadly, while many Nigerians were thinking that the incessant attacks and killings in the South-East region had become a thing of the past, the Daily Trust has reported the emergence of the Biafra Motherland Warrior.
As obtained, the new militant group is alleged to be more deadly than the ESN, and was recently seen within the Mbaise area of Imo State. It should be recalled that at the peak of the unknown gunmen attack in the South-East, Imo state was the worst hit. As such, with the Biafra Motherland Warrior having emerged and been spotted in Imo State, it is my view that everyone in the South-East region, should do these two important things to help improve the security of the region.
1. Desist from harbouring or aiding the new militant group
It is arguable that without the co-operation of the people in the South-East, the new militant group may find it difficult to operate. Therefore, it has become important that everyone in the region should avoid harbouring anyone identified as a member of the group, or aiding them in any way possible.
2. Co-operate with government security agencies in their quest to restore security to the South-East
For security agencies to effectively tackle crimes in the country, there is a need for people to co-operate with them. Therefore, in the wake of the emergence of the Biafra Motherland Warrior, it has become important that everyone in the South-East co-operates with the security agencies as they battle to restore security in the region.
There is no doubt that an issue of this nature could trigger divided views. However, when we consider the number of lives that were lost during the unknown gunmen attack in the South-East region, one may not be wrong to say that it has become important to ensure that the emergence of the Biafra Motherland Warrior is not allowed to lead to a repeat of the experience.
