Kidnapping

2 Security Concerns Raised by The Kidnap of a Businessman in Ogun State and is Rescued in Ondo

A businessman, Alhaji Folorunsho Sakirudeen, was recently kidnapped in Ogun State, but the cement dealer was rescued in Ondo State by officers of the Amotekun corps. Details of Sakirudeen's abduction and his subsequent rescue have since raised two security concerns about the safety of many Nigerians.

Commander of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) in Ondo, Adetunji Adeleye, has revealed how his men rescued a businessman, Folorunsho, in the Okitipupa area of Ondo State. Adetunji made some revelations that indicate kidnappers may have devised new strategies in carrying out their criminal activities.

The criminals carried out an interstate abduction. Many may not realize the implication of this operation. The kidnappers abducted Sakirudeen in Ogun State and managed to move him into another state. Perhaps, if the kidnappers had been successful during the Kidnap operation, security officers in Ogun State would have combed Ogun state to rescue a victim who was forcefully moved to Ondo State. The latest strategy of interstate could make the rescue of kidnapped victims harder. Security officers may end up searching through and investigating the wrong areas in their bid to rescue victims. The development may complicate security work. Therefore, increased attention needs to shift towards securing interstate borders.

The kidnappers successfully travelled to Ondo State with their victim in the car. Until Amotekun challenged them and a gun duel ensued, the suspects arrived in Ondo while driving recklessly. Commander Adetunji revealed the kidnappers drove Sakirudeen's car recklessly, which alerted the Amotekun Corps to track them and accost them. It is worrisome that Sakirudeen's kidnappers successfully moved a kidnap victim from one state to another without getting arrested at a security checkpoint or security formation, especially while driving recklessly. They could have killed people in the process or caused an accident. If such can happen to Sakirudeen, it makes one question how many familiar cases have taken place within the two states or other states in the country.
