Two soldiers shot by terrorists in Niger

Two soldiers were shot by terrorists in the Shiroro local government area community of Allawa as they attempted to free abducted victims.

The Nation has learned that on Tuesday afternoon, terrorists invaded the Allawa community and abducted four residents returning from their farm.

A resident of Allawa reported that one of the abductees was sent into town with the threat that the others would be executed if he failed to return.

As he purchased food and fuel for the outlaws, military operatives observing the town took note of the quantity of items and tracked him into the forest.

Before the military personnel could enter the forest, however, the militants spotted them and opened fire, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

During the exchange of gunfire, two soldiers were wounded and rushed to the hospital by their fellow soldiers.

The Nation has learned that one of the soldiers passed away on Thursday evening while the other is responding to treatment.

Residents reported that the terrorists freed the hostages without demanding ransom and fled after exchanging gunfire with military personnel.

It was also learned that the security forces have withdrawn from the town of Allawa, as residents claimed the military personnel were awaiting further orders from Army Headquarters.

Attempts to contact the Public Information Officer of the 31 Artillery Brigade in Minna were unsuccessful.
