Kudos To Valiant Troops As More Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists Surrendered, See Arms Recovered.

The recent event in Nigeria over terrorism has shown that the problem which Nigerians have lived with for over one decade will soon be over. Fighters of the notorious Boko Haram/ Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) have been surrendering to troops of the Nigerian Army. Last week, a total number of 91 people surrendered to the Army, the people consists of Boko Haram members and their families.

Just recently another set of Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State. The Army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Onyeama Nwachukwu disclosed that the terrorists surrendered after they were subdued by a heavy attack from the Nigerian Army and Air Force. The Army spokesperson revealed that the surrendered terrorists were from Sambisa forest and its environment. The children of the terrorists were said to have been given polio vaccine while adults were arranged for profiling.

According to the information provided by the spokesman of the Nigerian Army Brig. Gen. Onyeama Nwachukwu more Boko Haram terrorists/ Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists are surrendering to the ever gallant troops of the Nigerian army. Kudos to troops of Operations Hadin Kai conducting counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the northeast of Nigeria, through the effort of ground and air offensive operations against the terrorists.

Brig. Gen. Onyeama Nwachukwu disclosed the terrorists were subdued after a sustained air and artillery bombardments on enclaves of the terrorists in Sambisa forest and its environment. He disclosed that the operations have yielded results as 56 terrorists and their families laid down their arms abandoned other terrorists and their course. He said the terrorists have recently faced serious attacks from the Army and have suffered an enormous setback in their course over incessant attacks from the valiant troops of the Nigerian Army.

According to the Army spokesman, on 4 August some of the terrorists came out to surrender to the army as they also laid down their arms, the terrorists include, 18 male fighters, 18 female and 19 children from Chingori and other surrounding villages around Sambisa forest. The terrorists who surrendered to the troops laid down arms that include, 5 AK-47 rifles, 1 foreign AK-47 rifle with a telescopic sight, 1 Fabrique Nationale rifle, 8 AK-47 rifle magazines, 1 FN magazine, 1Bandolier, 3 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition and the sum of seven thousand, seven hundred naira (N7,700) only.

He disclosed that a Boko Haram fighter from Abuja Asamu Village in Sambisa forest also surrendered to the army and dropped his arms and ammunition which include his AK-47 rifle, 1 magazine holder, 1 round of 7.62mm special, and the sum of five thousand naira (N5,000). Brig. Gen. Onyeama Nwachukwu said in less than 2 weeks, over 100 Boko Haram terrorists and the Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists and their families have surrendered to the army after being subdued by operations of the Nigerian Army. The success is due to the combined effort of the Air component and ground troops of operation Hadin Kai, the Army spokesman said.

Kudos to the Army as they have a renewed dedication in the fight against insurgency in the country. Many Boko Haram fighters are surrendering to the Nigerian Army, my concern, however, is what measures has the Nigerian army put in place to ensure these terrorists do not go back to join the evil course of other terrorists?
