The insecurity issues in the Southeast region have caused a lot of tension and instability within the region. These security challenges are caused by the activities of unknown gunmen in the region.

It's important to recall that these Unknown Gunmen killed Chike Akunyili (The husband of late former NAFDAC Director General, Dora Akunyili) in Anambra state. Also, the campaign activities of gubernatorial candidates in Anambra State was affected by these unknown gunmen.

Recently, an investigation revealed by "Punch Newspapers" showed that about 175 persons (Including soldiers, police and civilians) have lost their lives in the South-East within the last six months due to the insecurity.
The investigation disclosed that the killings took place in 72 attacks by hoodlums across the five states in the region (Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi and Abia).
However, the Attorney General of the Federation (Abubakar Malami) disclosed that FG may declare a state of emergency in Anambra State if the level of insecurity keeps increasing.

A lot of people (Including Governor Willie Obiano) criticized Malami for making the statement about declaring a state of emergency in Anambra State.

Nevertheless, I believe that the death of 175 soldiers and other people in South-east region should be a reason to declare a state of emergency. This is because declaring a state of emergency will increase the number of security officers in the South-east region and this will make the unknown gunmen to be scared of carrying out attacks within the region.

Also, declaring a state of emergency in South-east region will improve the level of military activities in the region and this will help soldiers to discover and destroy the hideouts of criminals within the region.
