Two Observations As Bandits Attack Zamfara Again, Kill Twelve Residents

According to Babajide Otitoju, a popular journalist, suspected bandits carrying deadly weapons stormed Sakajiki village in Kaura Namoda Emirate of Zamfara State, killing dozens of civilians.

According to the journalist who posted the news on his Facebook page, the bandits arrived in town around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, and continued their operation until around 4:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021.

A local resident of the region revealed to journalists that the attackers killed twelve people and set fire to 19 shops and numerous other buildings in the community, including a police station.

The fresh attack came a few weeks after the federal government shutdown telecommunication networks in the state.

These are some important things I observed after the fresh attack in Zamfara State.

1. The attack shows that the recent shutdown of telecommunication networks in the North West is not really effective as intended.

A few days ago, a lawmaker in Sokoto State said bandits are now using the Niger Republic's network to communicate.

The attack shows that bandits have adapted to the new development in the North West and have returned to their devilish missions.

2. Although the military is trying its best in the fight against banditry in the North, however, they still need to do more.

More security agents are needed in the region, particularly in Zamfara State.

In conclusion, the federal government should evaluate its security policy in the North West and come up with a new strategy.

Also, local vigilantes should be employed by the government to secure their ccommunities because soldiers cannot be everywhere.
