According to reports,in the metropolitan area of Enugu, some security officers from 82 division Enugu have apprehended and take a bogus military man into custody.
Following the information obtained by news reporters a man who identified himself as Chibueze Asogwa and claimed to be a native of the Nsukka local government area LGA of Enugu state was detained on Saturday night,11th March 2023 in Enugu while posing as a member of the Nigerian army.
However, newsmen explained that Mr. Asogwa was disguising himself as a military officer, who helps in the facilitation of recruitment of anyone who wants to be a soldier at 82 Division, Enugu, regardless of the fact that he was not wearing any military uniform at the time he was caught.
“Mr. Asogwa was carrying charms, and telling people that he will help them get recruited into the Nigerian Army. Unfortunately for him, one of the persons he wanted to “help” in the recruitment informed some soldiers about his criminal activities. They then arrested and interrogated him thoroughly after giving him some physical torture", newsmen recalled.
On the other hand, the imposter responded that he was stationed in 82nd Division, Enugu, when he was questioned about where he lived while serving in the military.
Speaking further, the suspect,Mr Asogwa stated that the reason he roams about with charms around with him is to safeguard himself against any unsuspecting assault by armed robbers or Fulani herdsmen, adding that he uses the charms to ward off evil spirits as well.
"I use the charms to protect myself from anyone who poses as a threat to my life as well as to impress others who have the opportunity to witness such an occurrence",he recalled.
In the meantime,as of the time of this information got to the press, not even a complainant has come forward to allege that he or she was conned out of any money for military recruitment strategy used by the suspect.
At this point,Mr. Asogwa has been turned over to the police divisional command in Enugu for better handling of the case and potential indictment.
