The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation Hadin Kai, Maj Gen Christopher Musa has stated that some of the repentant bandits claim they do not know why they willingly surrendered.
Several Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian Army, a development that has drawn the attention of the state and federal governments.
Musa therefore, claimed that after interviewing some of the bandits, it was observed that they did not lay down their weapons willingly but cannot explain why they took the decision.
“Some of the surrendered insurgents will tell you they don’t even understand how they are surrendering and coming out in droves,” the Theatre Commander said.
He added that troops have sustained the tempo of its offensive to bring an end to the activities of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the North-East.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has insisted that it will continue to grant amnesty to repentant Boko Haram fighters.
