It was reported earlier today that a well known Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi asked the Nigerian military to stop killing bandits who have killed hundreds of Nigerians in different parts of the country.
This statement that was made by Sheikh Gumi has caused several Nigerians to react differently. While speaking, Sheikh Gumi made three Important statements.
First, he stated that the human rights of these bandits should be accorded to them, stating it clearly that their human rights must be respected. This is really a funny one from Sheikh Ahmed Gumi. I don't see any reason why the human rights of these killer bandits should respect. You can't take away someone's life and expect your own life or human rights to be respected, it is highly impossible. So, as long as I am concerned, I am totally against this statement that came from Sheikh Ahmed Gumi.
Secondly, he stated that these bandits have families and children and that they have empathy, the same way we have. It's obvious that they have family and children, but why must they go around killing peoples children and family members. So I still don't think that this is a good reason why the military should stop killing them.
Thirdly, he urged the federal government to use psychology on them. This is a good idea, but before the governenmt can think of using psychology on them, they should first of all renounce banditry and embrace peace.
On the other hand, I don't see any reason why Sheikh Ahmed Gumi should still be allowed to be moving freely after defending bandits on several occasions. But nevertheless, let's wait patiently and see what will happen in the future.
The federal government should also try and do more so as to make sure that all these bandits are eliminated. We have faith that very soon, all these problems will become history.
