Student Narrates his Ordeal on how he Survived Boko Haram's Attack on his School. [True life story]

The 29th day of OCTOBER 2014, is a day most students of the Adamawa state University will never forget...

The day they had to literally run for their lives.

This is a recount of a students personal experience...

Abraham Zacheus Obafemi, was a student of the Adamawa state university. He was studying Mechanical engineering at the time, he was exceptionally bright.

HOW IT ALL STARTED,

It seemed a rumour, as this wasn't the first time the extremist group had attacked the state, but for some reason known to them, they never came to Mubi as the town housed many students since the prestigous instutuition was in the locale...

Unknown to them, the evening before. Calls had been made to officials within the school informing them of the military retreating from the army base a stone throw away from Mubi. Which had since before served as a buffer against the extremists

Abraham was with a friend as they had just left their in-school parish where they had previously been for prayers, they were starved... Earlier that morning some news had made headway concerning how close the extremists were to their town, so cars had been sent to come pick students up, but students like him who didn't have any money as he had paid for a project only the day before and didn't have a dime to his name, he had to stay behind with a boatload of others who believed the extremists wouldn't come close to school... The students were very much accustomed with insurgency, hence the bravado...

It wasn't until 10:00am that rumours trickled in that that the extremists had made their way to the town, students decided to make their way to the dorms, hoping to sit out the whole situation...

It wasn't until When the bombs became nearer and they could see the smoke from afar that they realised they couldn't sit this one out, they had to move, and soon.

He took his only bag put his transcript and results in the bag, and to his better judgement hid it in a friend's shop instead of carrying it along like some other students...

Phonecalls were made to friends and family to explain the situation... Although Abraham couldn't get to any of his loved ones until three days later...

Abraham and his friends asked for vehicles going to Yola the state capital, and they were told that, the extremists had blocked the way leading out of the city, and they were advancing...

Only thing they could do was to run the opposite direction into the thick Mubi forests....

Abraham alongside his colleagues walked a whole day, until it dawned on them that, they were already deep into the forest, it was then he also realised he hadn't eaten because, the rumours had frighthened him so much, he ran from school hungry and he hadn't realised until now... It took them that whole day before they met with a village on the outskirts of Mubi, where they were greeted by some very hospitable villagers, who offered them food and water...

They heard that the extremists had overthrown Mubi, and were still advancing from the villagers... They left the next morning and continued on their journey, they walked the whole day, not eating anything still... It was at this point of the Journey the drama started...

Abraham said that, by the second day people couldn't keep it together. Some resulted to crying, those that brought loads, dropped them along the way, some young men dropped their laptops, as the extra weight wasn't doing them any good...

As of 2am, they came across another hurdle, as they were met with a huge fast flowing body of water, they decided there and then that they weren't going to put theirselves at risk and would be going back.... As soon as they heard the sounds of guns some distance away, they were so scared....A guy went into the water he didn't care if the water was so deep to might take him away, he was okay with any situation that didn't include dying at the hand of those inhumane men... He checked it's depth and luckily for him, it wasn't that deep.... He then relayed the information, telling them it was only neck deep, he swam back... They all went in holding hands, working in synergy and helping eachother...

They all made it accross

After the river, they met with a groundnut farm, and begged the farmer for some groundnuts... The kind farmer after hearing their plight gave them a portion of his farm and said they could pluck it to eat...

They asked him where they could get help to go to their respective homes... He told them the closest place to get help was to hike it all the way to Cameron...

They thanked him and left... Expecting to come up on Cameron in a few hours... Little did they know, They weren't even close yet.

They kept on trekking until they met another farmer who told them Cameron was just over a hill, they passed two hills, three hills and they still hadn't come up on Cameron, it kept on like that. Meeting people who claimed Cameron was just a stone throw away for two days...

Two days after they decided they were going to Cameron, they were picked by Cameroun soldiers, and were taken to border camps....

Due to the lack of resources at the border, they didn't have anything to eat for the four days Abraham stayed in the camp, except sugar cane and water....

On the fifth day, DEEPER LIFE BIBLE CHURCH sent an emisarry vehicle to transport the students back to their home country...

They were given lifts to Yola the Adamawa state capital, and cash to go all the way to their respective homes....

10 days after his escape from bokoharam extremists, he got to see his friends and family again, amidst all the prayers and love he recieved, he couldn't help feel bad about all his friends he heard had died at the hands of those inhumane men...
